My name is Jeremy Indika and I’ve had enough of the silence and stigma that surrounds child sexual abuse. It’s not helping. Children are relying on us adults to start talking about this and get it out into the open. There needs to be conversations in the home, in schools, and in mainstream media. And it’s up to us to make this happen.
I experienced horrific sexual abuse when I was 8 years old by a man who at the time was 25 years old. I tried to prosecute him but was told I didn’t have enough evidence. I then knocked on his door to confront him, which I was arrested for, and prosecuted for stalking and harassment.
So what do I do from here? I use film, animation and photography to be as creative as I can in communicating this subject. I want to get it on everyone’s table. I want people to understand it’s complexities and see that everybody can play a part in its prevention.
This is everyone’s concern. Enough is enough. We must make a change.
