My trauma didn’t start with sexual abuse. It started with hearing, watching and feeling abuse in my safe space, my home.
My first memories are daddy and mommy arguing, shouting, throwing things, hitting things and people.
I always find myself saying ‘but it wasn’t as bad as your experiences’. But for me and many others it was. Abuse is abuse, traumatic and unacceptable.
Having spoken to many warriors of abuse and trauma, we often feel the same. Guilt, shame, blame, anger, anxiety, depression, loathing (of us and them), unkind feelings and actions to ourselves.
Often these things lead us to be abused and traumatised again, by others and ourselves – I was sexually and emotionally.
So I am writing a book about just that. ‘The Way of a Warrior’ details a child’s experiences of abuse and trauma, and how that affected their journey through adulthood.
It looks at other warrior’s journeys, giving tools, ideas and resources they have used along the way. Hoping it helps.
