As a teen, I was sexually abused by my HIV+ Dad. I waived my right to anonymity, & chose to speak with the national press.
For myself, for every other survivor & for anyone suffering in silence. I haven’t reached where I am easily, but I hope that my story will give people hope. My Dad took my virginity from me when I was just a child, & that’s something I will never get back. But what I can do is reclaim my power, & my voice and use it to empower others.
No victim should feel ashamed of what has happened to them. No victim should question their worth or worry what people might say & think.
My Dad’s sentence ends in a few months time after serving just 4 years in prison. His life will soon return to normality. Whilst mine continues to be shaken each & every day.
But, I’m now a Mum. I have a 1st class degree. I own a small business. I’m engaged, and I am happy. I’ve found my strength, & my voice & I will continue to speak out with the aim of empowering others & making my girls proud.
