The word courage comes from the Latin word ‘cor’ meaning ‘heart’, and so the original definition was to share all of yourself, share your whole story with your whole heart – therefore an act of courage was an act of storytelling; To be totally vulnerable and share your story, warts and all, is one of the coolest, most courageous things I think anyone can do.
My name is Harrison James, I’m 22 years old, and I’m an adult survivor of child sexual abuse – My stepmother sexually molested me from the ages of 13 – 16, and when I was 15, she fell pregnant to my daughter, who I unfortunately haven’t seen for years.
I’m at a point in my life now where I’ve realised what happened to me was not my fault but I have this overwhelming responsibility to use my voice to do something great and make a difference no matter how big that is. I am on a pursuit to normalise the conversation, so victims can become survivors and we can implement proactive measures to protect the world’s children from this.
