I am an accredited Counselling Psychotherapist, Clinical Supervisor and Mental Health Advocate.
Over the last nearly 10 years I have worked with both male and female survivors of sexual abuse and rape, as well as delivering training programmes on the topic to raise awareness with hope to equip professionals with skills and knowledge when in contact with, or working with survivors.
The impact of sexual abuse on a survivor; can often be life long, as-well as life changing in many different ways. I feel this is a very important topic which, often due to the attached shame and taboos PREVENTS survivors and others speaking about the issues of sexual abuse, or even seeking help.
Therefore, creating space, platform and NORMALISING discussions about sexual abuse and rape can help raise awareness, offer support, encourage survivors to seek help and support, not feel alone and isolated, challenge societal taboos with the hope that more education can be delivered about the topic, and more support can be accessed by individuals.
We must make a change.
