At ten, I disclosed years of sexual abuse by writing three little words I couldn’t say aloud.
But disclosure wasn’t the end of the story.
Three Little Words explores the ripples abuse and disclosure created through my family and the people around me. Because when a child is abused, the impact doesn’t stop with that child — and it doesn’t disappear when they finally speak.
Since publishing the book, people have trusted me with experiences they’ve carried silently for years, sometimes decades. It’s made me realise how much perpetrators live in silence and how much shame survivors carry that was never theirs.
It’s a privilege when someone feels safe enough to share. I’m not there to fix them. Sometimes it’s about holding space, listening and allowing somebody to feel heard.
That can be healing in itself.
I wanted Three Little Words to create ripples. I hadn’t realised how many other people’s stories those ripples might reach.
