My name’s Karen and I’m part of the Something to Say team.
The Something to Say movement is an opportunity for us to raise awareness about a difficult subject that is often brushed under the carpet. Children need us to be their voice, they need us to care.
Child abuse is hidden from view, we don’t know how many children are currently suffering but statistics say 1 in 5 women, and 1 in 13 men report to being sexually abused as a child.
This is not okay.
I want children to be educated from a young age. Most adults who suffered abuse, didn’t know it was wrong. Some are too scared to talk because adults won’t believe them.
Adults aren’t trained to deal with it, they don’t know how to spot the signs. They need to be educated, as do schools and front-line services.
Everyone needs to be educated.
We need to work on prevention.
Train more people in Trauma recovery.
Teach every one of these children and adults that it wasn’t their fault and give them hope.
What if it happened to your child?
The thought of this happening to my child is unbearable.
The thought of this happening to ANY child is unbearable.
That’s why I’m here, I want to help. I want change.
